How to know the employee is planning to leave?

It's the first day at the office and Rini is all set to play her role with a positive attitude. Every work that she is given is an opportunity to learn. Every day at work is building her personality and she is witnessing her growth with a determined heart to keep it going. Her leaders are supportive and the office culture is also positive. It seems like the best workplace for her.

It's been a year now, Rini has attained a higher position at her workplace. But there is a pattern that Rini has started to find in her job. She misses on the challenges she used to face. And to add onto this, her leader has also left the organisation. The new leader believes in the final outcome and is more into delegating. Rini has queries but his leadership has no time to listen, all it wants is the end result.

One day her leader calls her to his office and hands over a huge project to handle. Rini's excitement levels are at high and her mind has already started thinking on the strategies she is going to apply. She spent all her night planning the complete process starting stage to execution level. The room is filled with attentive listeners and she explains her strategies with the team. Everyone appreciates her efforts. The project has taken off well and has started to take shape.

Rini is busy discussing the progress of the project with a teammate and then she receives a call. Her boss calls her and tells her that he would be taking the project from the next step onwards. Boom! What about her efforts, her thoughts, her strategies? Would she be given the credit for her determination and intellect? Why did her boss take away the project from her? Days go by and she is all about following the instructions from her boss on the project. No opinions required. She knew the project would do well as she had established a strong base for the project. Finally, the project ends with success and she gets her credit too.

Rini continues to do good at her job, but somewhere she is concerned about her growth path. She compares herself with her friends who are doing extremely well in their fields. She eventually stops taking interest in taking new responsibilities, even her queries have come to halt.

Situation A

Rini starts looking for a new place to work. And thus shows no interest in the current job. She finally resigns one day leaving everyone stunned at her departure.

Situation B

Her leader observes this sudden behaviour and reaches out to her. After discussing, he finds her concerns and promises to give her ample opportunities to explore her role at a greater level.

This may look like a story heard before, maybe because you faced it or must have heard from a close friend. Well, this is just a single story and we are sure there are many more.

A sincere employee always looks for some sort of appreciation, if ignored this employee is most likely to leave and he should not be the one to be blamed. The managers should be able to identify these employees through the change in their behaviour. The discouraged employee will take no interest in the company and its growth.

Aligning the employee with that of the organisation growth should be taken seriously. If the employee is able to see his contribution making an impact, he will eventually find a connect with the organisation and wouldn't think about leaving it.

HR Agility: Managing the Change!

It is with the emergence of global competition, changing customer demand, political turmoil, supplier upheavals and economic troughs that the stability is getting replaced with permanent volatility. Gone are the days when the pre-structured polici

The rising of Functional Managers

In recent years, the market globalization is fueling greater competition among corporates. Now large institutional shareholders are becoming a new source of external governance.  In response to these massive shifts in the environment, the firms are spinning off their peripheral businesses, focusing on core areas and outsourcing selected activities.  One of the recent transformations in the corporate world is the skyrocketing number of executive team. According to a survey of some 300 Fortune 500 companies, the number of functional managers reporting directly to the CEO has doubled, from an average of 5 direct reports in 1986 to an average of 10 today.  A power shift is occurring in modern businesses as the functional managers who report directly to the CEO – are taking greater control in business management.  CEOs are eliminating layers in management ranks, broadening their spans of control, and changing pay structures by increasing incentives.  This has give

Stop being calculative When you are working with an organization and staying there for major part of your day, you are supposed to pour your heart out to every task you do. We have to stay there for 8-9 hours, there cannot be an escape, then why not utilize it fully for learning, exploring and accomplishing our best. Time killers   Every organization contains some specific lot of people, who are more focused towards not-so-important issues rather than their work profile. They mostly spend their day gossiping, cribbing, complaining or having juicy discussions about the personal lives of other colleagues. Naturally, they have no personal development goals and pretend to be the most ideal human beings present, our suggestion is to ignore such people politely.
